PEACH 2/2012 - 5/15/2024
Peach was a sweet soul, loved by all she encountered. She was a therapy dog, visiting schools and nursing homes, and made a big contribution to The Dog Ranch by just being herself.
When the Aztec, NM school shooting happened, Peach and I were members of the therapy dog team that went to the school. Our last day there was with the teachers who were at Ground Zero during the attack. Peach and another dog were laying in the center of a circle of teachers telling their horrible stories and trying to make sense of it all. At one point both dogs got up ... shook it off ... and laid back down so they could absorb more horrible things. I wish I could be more like Peach and shake this off ... but missing her will probably be with me for the rest of my life.
Peach had a very level, even energy. When training with Traci Moriarty in Durango, we would often use Peach as a "buffer dog" between two dogs that just could not get along. Put Peach in the middle and all was well. Peach even went to help Daisy with her "growly dogs" because her energy didn't affect the other dogs and they were able to get some training in.
Peach would insert herself between two dogs here at The Dog Ranch if she felt they were doing something they shouldn't be doing; this is called splitting, and it worked.
All in all, Peach had a good life and was a very good dog and will be missed ... And, if you think she has any lab in her, you are wrong! She was half catahoula leopard dog and half a bunch of other stuff. She was found in Georgia under some electrical equipment at a construction site along with her brother when they were oh-so-itty-bitty. She was flown up to Green Bay, Wisconsin and we brought her home to be my father's dog. That lasted a couple of days and my father realized he really didn't want a dog ... but I DID ... and she moved across the street with me and Bella, my Chessie.
Here's a video of some snippets of Peach's life ...
